WHAT WE DO

Leveraging digital technology to create new ways in which people can overcome barriers to accessing legal information and services to exercise their rights.

An estimated 5 billion people globally have unmet justice needs. In Africa, specifically East and Southern Africa where we work, these needs remain unmet primarily because people are located physically, economically, socially and psychologically far from points of justice.

WHO WE ARE

We are Ugandan-founded nonprofit which believes that for a society to thrive , people must be able to fully exercise and enjoy their rights .

Bridging barriers to accessing legal information and services is foundational to building peaceful communities in which people can thrive.

With access to this information, individuals become confident about their ability to handle legal challenges, use the knowledge of the law to solve their own legal challenges, and employ appropriate dispute resolution mechanisms. People like Rose, a small restaurant business owner in Kole who faced challenges from a defaulting organisation she had catered for. She turned to the BarefootLaw Box for support. Rose was connected to a lawyer via video conferencing, who mediated between her and the organisation and recovered her money. Today, Rose's restaurant serves delicious meals to the community in Kole and her business is thriving.
