A misdemeanour is a criminal offence which is not considered very grave/ serious and so attracts a low penalty as opposed to a felony.A misdemeanour is an offence which attracts a penalty of less than 2 years as stated in the Penal Code Act Section 22

For example, assaulting a police officer or trying to prevent a police officer from executing his orher duty is a misdemeanour provided for in Section 238 of the Penal Code Act.
